Regional
Intervention Program
RIP
is a nationally recognized, parent-implemented, activity-based program
for families of young children. It is offered free of charge to
participants. RIP is fully funded by the Tennessee Department of
Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.
Who we Serve
RIP serves families with children ages 2 through
kindergarten who are exhibiting behavior problems. Children are
eligible even if they are enrolled kindergarten.
How does RIP Work?
RIP’s most important component is parent
implementation. Parents learn to work with their own children, support
one another, and implement the program. Parents learn by repeated
direct practice followed by supportive feedback.
Parents learn and practice implementing positive
behavior management skills and techniques when dealing with children’s
behavior issues. RIP teaches parents to take an active role in training
their child and teaching other parents to do the same.
Experienced RIP parents provide training and
support for newly enrolled families. RIP is designed to work with
a wide variety of problems. Parents are encouraged to contact the
program to discuss any questions they may have.
Why
Come to RIP?
Parents with concerns about their child’s behavior have come
to RIP for assistance in handling things such as:
• Overly active behavior
• Withdrawn behavior
• Tantrums
• Aggressive behavior
• Not following directions
• Bedtime and sleeping problems
• Destructive behavior
• Screaming
• Inattentiveness
• Stubbornness
